About us

Prism LGBTQ+ is the only youth group in Coventry to welcome all young people aged 13-18 who identify as:

• Lesbian
• Gay
• Bisexual
• Transgender
• Queer
• Questioning
• Asexual
• Anything else!

Our organisation evolved out of the Godiva Young Gays & Lesbians group which closed due to funding cuts. Prism was created in 2012 to continue and expand upon the vital work undertaken by its predecessor.

In 2019 & 2020 we were honoured to be awarded Silver in the Midlands Zone Reader Awards for the category “Best Midlands LGBT Charity/Group of Achievement”

• We hold weekly meetings at a discreet venue on Wednesday evenings (6-8pm) in a central Coventry location to provide a safe space for young LGBTQ+ people to socialise.

Generally the group gets together to socialise, play games and talk about anything which interests our young people. Occasionally we facilitate creative activities which allow members to express themselves.

We have also in the past arranged events such as:

• Attending various Pride events – Birmingham Pride Parade, Coventry Pride Parade, and Warwickshire Pride 
• Visiting theatre productions throughout the West Midlands including the RSC
• Visiting the Birmingham Art Gallery and Museum for their “Coming Out” exhibition of LGBTQ+ art and artists
• Workshops involving Risky Behaviours, Sexual Health and Legal Workplace Rights
• Q&A with our local MP
• Talks from West Midlands Police about relevant topics, such as reporting hate crime and cyber safety
• Lizard visits! Laser Quest! Cinema trips! Mini Golf! Anything suggested, we'll consider it! Events are also fully funded by us, meaning no costs are passed onto the members.

If you decide you would like to attend one of our sessions, we ask that you fill out our membership form HERE, which will also provide more information about where we meet. This enables us to have a record of any relevant medical details and emergency contact details.
